Lining of a blast furnace at ThyssenKrupp Steel

Following a furnace cycle of nigh on twelve years, to use the jargon for the production time between two phases of modernization, ThyssenKrupp Steel AG's blast furnace no. 1  at the Duisburg-Schwelgern plant, which dates back to 1973, will embark upon its fifth cycle in early April and be relined again. The aggregate will be shut down very briefly, for only about 70 days in fact, and will be upgraded with state-of-the-art technology.

Day in, day out the aggregate processes about twenty freight trains, each with 20 wagons, carrying ore,  sinter, coke and coal, producing 10,000 tons of pig iron from this daily. There are almost 100 water pumps installed for cooling, gas purification and for converting the blast furnace slack into granulate.

The package of services and materials to be supplied by Uhde Services includes the steel structure for the blast furnace construction (repairs and replacement of parts in the following areas: bell and hopper, tip chute-expansion cover, compensators for the downspout and the pressure-compensation pipes, blast furnace steel jacket, hot-air blast system), as well as the cooling system for the blast furnace (repairs and replacement of parts in the following areas: floor cooling, emergency water cooling, cycle cooling, frame cooling, blow-mould cooling, media supply).
