Revamp of a refinery power plant
When anyone talks about the ‘RheinPower II’ project, they are referring to the revamp of Shell’s Rhineland Refinery power plant at Wesseling. The industrial power plant generates process steam to operate the refinery and cover part of its own energy needs.
In order to meet the environmental requirements of the 13th Federal Immission Control Directive (Bundesimmissionsschutzverordnung - BlmSchV) and to make the refinery more competitive, the power plant is being modernised and some sections rebuilt. Uhde Services' share in the project is to carry out the engineering involved in revamping the steam system and retrofitting flue gas treatment units.
The completion of the project is scheduled for August 2011.
