Revamp and expansion of LDPE plant

Thai Polyethylene Co. (TPE), a subsidiary of Siam Cement Group, has been producing low-density polyethylene (LDPE) at its site in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, using a process developed by ICI (UK) for years. As the original licensor is no longer active in the LDPE business, TPE is now supported by ExxonMobil Chemical Technology Licensing, USA.

The aim now is to carry out a major revamp of the LDPE plant in Thailand. Uhde Services is supplying the engineering and construction supervision services for the LDPE revamp and Uhde High Pressure Technologies is responsible for supplying the high-pressure equipment.

The aim of the revamp and expansion of the LDPE plant is to raise the efficiency and to improve the maintenance (increased plant availability) as well as to recover the thermal energy for the production of low-pressure steam in an off-site facility.

The market potential for Uhde Services and Uhde High Pressure Technologies in the LDPE revamp business is considerable and can be further developed through a joint marketing strategy.
