Revamp of a tail gas treatment unit at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe

The sintering plant of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe, which comprises sintering belts 2, 3 and 4, prepares powdered fines purchased from abroad for use in the blast furnace process. The fines are, to use the technical jargon, pelletized at high temperatures. The 800°C lumps of ore that are formed pass to enormous rotating plant components – the rotary coolers – where they are cooled to 200°C by means of huge quantities of air, which has of course so far resulted in a large amount of dust particles being entrained.

In order to improve the clean gas values, a new tail gas treatment plant  is to be built for the tail gases from sintering belt 2. The post-treatment unit is to be installed downstream of the existing electrostatic precipitator.

As the EPC contractor Uhde Services is supplying all the required raw and clean gas ducts including the storage and residue silos for the new tail gas treatment unit based on the basic data package developed by Küttner. The scope of supplies is approx. 718 tons and the scope of erection approx. 773 tons. The basic engineering, supervision of the detail engineering, supervision of the fabrication and construction management at the ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe site will be carried out by Uhde Services.

The plant is scheduled to become ready for operation in October 2011.
