Revamp of the process technology in a refinery
The Portuguese chemicals company, Galp Energia Portugal, has operated the biggest refinery in the country in the port of Sines for 30 years. One of the components of this refinery is the FCC (fluidized catalytic cracking) plant which is used to convert heavy crude oil fractions into valuable petrol, olefinic substances and other products by means of catalytic cracking (of long oil molecules).
To meet the growing demand for products such as petrol, diesel, gas and heating oil, Petrogal is planning to modernize and optimize its production processes. Uhde Services is responsible for the complex engineering and installation supervision within the scope of the FCC revamp. The reengineering, which comprises the process technology, measuring and control technology, as well as the pipeline planning and review of the statics of the steel structure, is based upon the know-how of the licensor, UOP.
